With years of experience in wedding flowers, A&L Florist knows that every wedding is unique. We create bespoke wedding flowers to suit any size and style of event – and go above and beyond to meet special requests for every special day.
For A&L’s long standing customer Michelle, and her fiancé Ryan, the illness of a close family member saw their wedding plans change significantly.
Now looking to elope (with a small group of 20) and with a tight timeframe and limited budget, Michelle had almost given up on the idea of wedding flowers… until she met Stefano (Olivieri), A&L’s wedding consultant.
“Nothing was too hard for Stefano,” Michelle says. “It was a very emotional time for awful reasons, but he was genuinely compassionate, he understood and he created absolutely stunning flowers. If I could have dried and kept all of them, I would have.”
Rediscovering A&L Florist
Michelle has been buying flowers from A&L for years, but it wasn’t until a chance encounter on the dance floor that she looked to A&L Florist for her wedding flowers.
“We live locally, so we used to drive past A&L all the time and drop in whenever we needed flowers. I had visited when I was first thinking about wedding flowers but I had in my head that fresh flowers would be far too expensive.”
In the meantime, Michelle and Ryan booked in for a wedding dance class at DanceXS, never realising Stefano, who is also a professional dancer, was going to be their guide on the dance floor.
“It was funny that we found him via his dance studio. When he asked why I hadn’t come into the florist and I mentioned the cost, he told us not to be ridiculous,” she laughs. “He said he could work to any budget and invited me in for a chat.”
Creating dream wedding flowers
At A&L Florist, the first step for wedding flowers is a face to face consultation with Stefano to talk about your dream flowers, the wedding and just what’s possible.
“I did have some photos I had collected when I had first started planning for the wedding. I wanted bush natives, just like we had gone for a walk in the forest and picked up these gorgeous flowers,” Michelle explains. “I’m a designer by trade and I had a very clear picture in my mind. He got the vision straight away and I knew immediately that I could trust him to give me exactly what I was looking for.
Stefano took those photos and made it happen on a limited budget in just four weeks,” Michelle adds. “It exactly fitted the magical forest feel that I was after. There were gums, Leucadendrons and blue sea flowers, some proteas and vines. Stefano also convinced me to pop in a few roses to soften the bouquets and that turned out to be one of my favourite touches.”
A forest wedding
Michelle and Ryan married in May in Glenworth Valley, a stunning destination just north of Sydney. The ceremony was at a lookout with sweeping valley views and guests seated on sandstone pews. The reception venue was close by and all guests stayed in cabins on site.
“Stefano created absolutely beautiful bouquets for me and my two bridesmaids, a corsage for my mum and buttonholes for two boys and my dad. He drove up with the flowers, set up the centrepieces and some greenery for the tables, then dropped off the bouquets directly to our cabin.
I was completely happy with the style – and the quality. We travelled to take the photos in beat up troop carriers. They definitely got knocked about,” she laughs, “but everything stayed perfectly in place.”
Exquisite flowers; exceptional service
While Michelle loved her forest flowers, she also was very appreciative of the personal A&L Florist service.
“Nothing was too hard for Stefano. He had a solution for everything. It was a very difficult time with my mum being ill, but he took something very stressful and made it really easy.
My husband’s family couldn’t attend at the time as they’re in Ireland, but we do want to renew our vows when they can be here, and I’ll definitely be back to Stefano.”
